Ohio Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (OAFCS) is an affiliate of the national organization AAFCS. Membership, vision and mission in AAFCS are the same for OAFCS.flame
The Flame in the logo signifies "to make better" the German words "besser" or "bete," as the Betty Lamp in colonial days provided light for families and households.
Vision: The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS and OAFCS) is recognized as the driving force in bringing people together to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
Mission: The mission of the AAFCS and OAFCS is to provide leadership and support for professionals whose work assists individuals, families, and communities in making informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life.
Our Core Values: Believes in the family as a fundamental unit of society, embraces diversity and values all people, is dedicated to life-long learning and diverse scholarship, prepares new professionals, exemplifies integrity and ethical behavior, and seeks new ideas and is open to change for the well-being of families, individuals and communities.
Family and consumer sciences (FCS) represents human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, food science, nutrition, and wellness, textiles and apparel, and consumer issues.
Our Professionals: Today’s FCS professionals practice in multiple settings. They are early childhood, elementary, secondary, university/college, and Extension educators, administrators and managers, human service professionals, researchers, community volunteers, business people, and consultants who address the issues most important to our quality of life.
