Helen Strow Travelship

In 1996, the Ohio Association of Family and Consumer Sciences provided the first Helen Strow Travelship of $1,000 to Sharon Mader.  She attended her first International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.  In 2000, Sharon McManus received the second Helen Strow Travelship of $1,000 to attend her first IFHE Congress in Ghana, West Africa.  In 2004, Sandra Ranftl received $1,500 to attend the IFHE Congress in Kyoto, Japan.

OAFCS is seeking contributions to continue this travelship in Helen’s honor.  We would like to award the fourth Helen Strow Travelship in 2008 for an OAFCS member to attend their first IFHE Congress in Lucerne, Switzerland from July 24-28, 2008.

Checks should be payable to OAFCS and indicate contribution is for Helen Strow Travelship.  Checks may be mailed to OAFCS Treasurer (Treasurer's name and address can be found on the Association Directory page).

IFHE-US Development Fund

The IFHE-US Development Fund provides a means by which you can contribute to help fellow Home Economist/Family Consumer Sciences professionals in developing countries to strengthen programs for families and communities.  Started in 1997, the IFHE-US Fund has collected over $67,000.  Only the interest earned can be used for programming.  All administrative costs associated with fund development have been born by individual volunteers, so that all of your money is working for families!

The first grant was awarded to St. Lucia in 2004 at the 20th World Congress of IFHE.  It will help students develop income generating skills.

The IFHE-US Development Fund is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization.

Checks should be payable to:

IFHE-US Development Fund and mailed to IFHE-US Development Fund
P.O. Box 2403, Holland, Michigan, 49422-2403
