Friend Of The Family Award Guidelines
The OAFCS’s State Friend of
the Family Award is awarded to an individual or organization involved in
making decisions that affect the well-being of families. Its purpose
is to recognize leaders whose work over time has made a significant contribution
in policy areas affecting the family. Secondly, the award brings
recognition to the work of family and consumer sciences professionals and
OAFCS. The award is governed by the following guidelines:
FREQUENCY:
The award will be presented annually at the state annual meeting.
Not more than one award will be presented in a program year (August - July).
ELIGIBILITY:
Any individual or organization involved at the local, state, national,
or international level in the policy-making process, with particular emphasis
on public policy decisions affecting families, is eligible to receive this
award.
SUBMISSION PROCESS:
To nominate an eligible individual or organization, please submit the following:
• Nomination form
• Letter of support from District President, if appropriate.
• Curriculum vitae or resume of the nominee (if appropriate).
• Other supporting material such as biographical information, newspaper
or magazine articles, and other relevant information.

OAFCS
OUTSTANDING THESIS AND DISSERTATION AWARDS
The Ohio Association of Family and Consumer
Sciences is seeking nominations for an outstanding thesis and dissertation
completed during 2006 or 2007. The winners will be recognized at the OAFCS
Annual Meeting and receive cash awards of approximately $180
dollars. The thesis or dissertation must
(1)
have been completed for a graduate
degree from an Ohio Family and Consumer Sciences higher education program
OR
(2)
have been completed by a member of OAFCS for a graduate degree in a field
related to family and consumer sciences.
Criteria for the awards include:
(1) contribution to the field of family and
consumer sciences;
(2) theoretical soundness of the study;
(3) methodological
soundness of the study.
Application for the award: can
be made by either the student or major professor. Interested persons should
submit copies of the following via e-mail attachment as Word documents by
MARCH 10, 2008.
1. Cover Sheet: title of thesis or
dissertation; names, addresses and phone numbers of author and major professor;
university or college where thesis or dissertation was written
2. Thesis or Dissertation Abstract
3. Letter of Support from Major Professor/Dissertation or Thesis Advisor/Chair

After examination of abstracts
and letters of support, the OAFCS Research Committee will select theses and
dissertations for review. Notice of the award will occur by March 15.
